The Technical Centre is the location for Toyota Motor Europe's Research & Development (R&D), Purchasing and Production Engineering (PE) functions. From there Toyota ensures its cars match European customer's demands. R&D undertakes body, powertrain chassis and electronics design, the selection and testing of materials and components, engine evaluation, and the tuning of the driveability characteristics of all Toyota models. PE undertake plant building construction and equipment and tooling preparation for mass production. Purchasing oversees the procurement of more than 4 billion of parts and materials each year.
This is a full time position in TME's Paint Department within the Material Engineering Division. It is a very interesting position, as more and more responsibility , knowledge and responsibilities are transferred from Japan to Brussels.
Responsibilities:
1. Paint Design:
- Through benchmarking and plant data analysis, set quality targets for new vehicle projects
- Prepare draft drawings for paint application, after discussion with related divisions
- In cooperation with production engineering, purchasing and styling divisions, coordinate new body colour development
- Evaluate new colours accordance with Toyota Standards,
Issue production drawing, instruction standards for each vehicle project
- Follow paint design schedule and coordinate each milestone and activity
- Line support and problem follow-up during production preparation, and after start of production
2. Plant Problem Solving Support:
- As a liaison job, ensure that the plants are running smoothly
- In case of a problem, collect all necessary information form the plants, and after decision with Toyota-Japan, go and study the problem
- Based on the grasped information, coordinate root-cause finding activity with Japan and suppliers
- Through execution of countermeasures, follow-up suppliers and plant side together with related divisions
- Regularly report status of European plants to Japan side
3. New Material Introduction:
- Update TME of the Toyota-Japan new material introduction plan and policy
- Hearing of supplier localization plan
- In coordination with TME-Quality Dept., participate new supplier plant audit
- Assess supplier plant status in terms of manufacturing capability of the designed material
- Follow supplier improvement plan and actual status against concern items
- Participate pilot manufacturing trials in Toyota plants
- Ensure that new materials are introduced smoothly in Toyota plants

- University Degree in Engineering preferably in the field of Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
- Minimum 4 years relevant experience in the automotive industry, including parts suppliers or paint related business
- Fluent in English
- Excellent communication skills
- Catia V5 capability is an asset
- Good problem finding, analysing, and solving skills
- Team worker with flexible mind
- Well organised, detailed and punctual personality
- Open minded and always searching ways to improve him/herself
- Willing to travel: 25% and ready to accept long-term stay in Japan
- PC literate: Excel, Word & Powerpoint
