The Technical Centre is the location for Toyota Motor Europe's Research & Development (R&D), Purchasing and Production Engineering (PE) functions. From there Toyota ensures its cars match European customer's demands. R&D undertakes body, powertrain chassis and electronics design, the selection and testing of materials and components, engine evaluation, and the tuning of the driveability characteristics of all Toyota models. PE undertake plant building construction and equipment and tooling preparation for mass production. Purchasing oversees the procurement of more than 4 billion of parts and materials each year.
This position within Ergonomics department is very interesting and dynamic, as you deal both with engineers and designers on many aspects of component development to optimise the customers' interface with our products. Additionally to defining the vehicles' package and Ergonomics performances of next generation vehicles sold in the European market, you act as a consultant to the design community on every component the customer looks at or interacts with on our vehicles.
This position provides a very diverse experience, incorporating many aspects of the product development cycle. Ergonomics department is part of Vehicle Performance Management Division
Responsibilities:
- You provide vehicle projects members with assistance to identify and solve ergonomics issues
- You assist in developing targets, criteria, and new vehicle features by identifying ergonomics needs and wants through the application of detailed benchmarking and ergonomics standards and principles
- You utilise CAD in the application and assessment of occupant package and ergonomics standards for vehicle components
- You identify areas where detailed customer usage studies are needed for vehicle development and conduct these studies
- You contribute to the development of Ergonomics processes, guidelines, standards and cross-vehicle recommendations through good documentation and communication
- You perform occupant packaging including locating primary controls, accommodation of driver and passengers, and analysis of exterior field of view and cargo capacity. You also perform usability, operability, and visibility evaluations of vehicle's controls, displays, and interior parts
- You report to management and Chief Engineer and also directly to Toyota Motor in Japan

M/W
- Master degree in Engineering with Major or experience in the field of ergonomics or human factors
- At least 3 years of Ergonomics Engineering work experience in the automotive
- Fluent in English
- Experience with automotive occupant package work would be a major plus
- CAE and/or CAD experience is desired
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Self-starter and proactive in identifying and helping to solve problems
- Desire to handle a very diverse range of issues and a constantly changing set of priorities
- Ready to travel internationally and work overtime
